作家のことば

　風が吹き桜の花びらが散る情景を描いてみた。まだ肌寒い富士、忍野を中心にスケッチを重ねた。名峰富士、世界の人々が知るこの山に登り、神の領域に近づいていった。今まであまりに偉大で小品に終わっていた。大作にしたのは初めてであった。自分の心の中に前年亡くなった妻がいて、勇気を出させてくれたのかもしれない。

I painted a scene of cherry petals falling as the wind blew. I made a series of sketches mainly in the still chilly Fuji and Oshino areas. This was the first time he had made a large work. Perhaps it was the presence of my wife, who had passed away the previous year, in my mind that gave me the courage to do so.
