作家のことば

　昨夏東北を旅した、その折会った遠縁の娘さんの美しく成長した姿に驚く、前に会ったのは彼女が五年生の頃だったろうか。素朴な恥ずかしがりやの児だった。一瞬蛹が蝶に羽化するとはこう言うことかと思った。その時の感動を今に、これからの彼女の幸せを願い、希望に満ちた未来を見上げるポーズに託し、「若い人」と題し制作した。

I traveled to Tohoku last summer and was surprised to see the beautiful and grown-up daughter of a distant relative I met there. She was a simple, shy child. For a moment, I thought that this was what it meant for a chrysalis to hatch into a butterfly. I titled this work “Young Person” to reflect the impression I had at that time, wishing her happiness in the future, and entrusting her pose to look up at the future filled with hope.
