作家のことば

　「本」や「聖書」を意味するBiblioにドイツ語の「木」=Baumを合わせた造語。「本」という文字は「木」に由来するという。天然木が張りめぐらされる円形劇場のような石川県立図書館には、同地を治めた加賀藩の石高を誇り、「百万石ビブリオバウム」の愛称が付いた。無音の中、木漏れ日が差し込み、各々がその世界に集中している。

This is a coined word combining "Biblio," meaning "book" or "Bible," with the German word for "tree," "Baum." The Japanese character for "book" is said to originate from the character for "tree." The Ishikawa Prefectural Library, which resembles an amphitheater lined with natural wood, is nicknamed "Hyakumangoku Bibliobaum" (Million Koku Bibliobaum), boasting the rice yield of the Kaga domain that once ruled the area. In the silence, sunlight filters through the trees (komorebi), and everyone concentrates on their own world.
