キバタンとアオキコンゴウ

作家のことば

　東山動植物園で観察したキバタンとアオキコンゴウインコを題材に制作した。嘴の力でぶら下がって遊ぶ姿に高い知性を覚え、色鮮やかな羽に惹かれ、彫刻に淡く色彩を加えた。異なる生息地の鳥が隣り合う姿に動物園ならではの面白さを感じ、動物園の檻を意識して空間を表現した。

I created this work based on the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and the Blue-and-yellow Macaw I observed at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens. I sensed high intelligence in their playful hanging by the power of their beaks, and, attracted by their vivid feathers, I added subtle color to the sculpture. I found the sight of birds from different habitats side-by-side to be a unique interest of the zoo, and I expressed the space by being conscious of the zoo cage.
