作家のことば

馬はとても澄んだ目をして、愛くるしい動物です。一方で競走馬や食肉、長い歴史の中では戦いや労働力としても扱われてきました。自分の意志には関係なく、生まれた環境や場所、または種類により運命に左右されてしまう存在である馬と人間を対比させながら、悲しみと静かな怒りなど複雑な気持ちを表現しようと試みました。

Horses have very clear eyes and are endearing animals. On the other hand, they have been treated as racehorses, meat, and throughout long history, as instruments of war and labor. I attempted to express complex feelings, such as sadness and quiet anger, by contrasting horses—beings whose fate is determined by their birthplace, environment, or breed, regardless of their own will—with humans.
