海景

作家のことば

　子供の頃、一度だけフェリーに乗ったことがある。よく晴れた夏の日で、初めて見る外海は朝の日差しの中で信じられないほどの青さだったのを覚えている。その光景は、船腹から飛び出してゆく飛魚の速い煌めきや、迫りくる水塊の蒼いうねりとともに私の中にずっと在り続け、いつか描いてみたい風景のひとつとなっていった。

I rode a ferry only once when I was a child. It was a clear summer day, and I remember the open sea, which I saw for the first time, was an incredible blue in the morning light. That scene, along with the fast sparkle of flying fish leaping from the ship's side and the dark blue swell of the approaching water mass, has remained with me, becoming one of the landscapes I've always wanted to paint.
