作家のことば

　今年で被爆八十年になります。私は被爆二世です。両親は戦争のことは具体的にはあまり聞かせてくれませんでした。ただ、絶対に繰り返してはいけないということは、何度も言っていました。しかし、現在も世界では戦争が続いています。人が人を殺してはいけません。まして瞬時に大勢の命を断つようなことは絶対にしてはいけません。

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings. I am a second-generation survivor (*hibaku nisei*). My parents did not often speak about the war in detail. However, they repeatedly said that it must absolutely never be repeated. Yet, wars continue around the world today. People must not kill people. Furthermore, instantly ending the lives of many people is absolutely forbidden.
